The following "part only" tracks were prepared by our own
Finale and Smart Score instructor, Mike Rosen. A note to my Harmony College NorthWest Friends!
This song/arrangement is a story about Friendship and Harmony! I love singing tags (who doesn't?) and the joy of meeting friends from all over the world, especially my HCNW friends. Of course, you know Carlos Aguayo and Clara Dair, don't you? They love singing tags, too, and a few years ago, when I met them, we were having a great time and I taught them a tag. The following year, they remembered and asked me to teach it to them again. It was a tag that I had found when I lived in Kansas City and it is chock full of BBS 7ths, which just makes it ring and sing!!! It goes with a song we all love to sing,"Heart of My Heart (the Story of the Rose)." I showed the Friday Night Taggers assembled how to sing the song, then add the tag. We all had a lot of fun singing it throughout the weekend. This past fall, I realized (again) that Inspiration Is All Around Us! I had a tune running through my head; Lyrics were bursting out of me; Everyone In Harmony was blossoming; I was going to be teaching at HCNW again; There probably was a more elegant way to get that tag onto the verse; and the song itself needed updating. All of these facets combined to give you, my NW friends, this attempt at building this song we all love to sing into a more open, inclusive, loving vehicle... and it has aRIPPER BBS TAG that Everyone can sing!!! So, my friends, I hope you enjoy this. Sing it in whatever key works best for your voices! Sing it for any occasion that suits your soul, your spirit, your heart! Thank you for all you do to keep Barbershop Harmony available for Everyone... and, especially, for your friendship and passion for learning. Thank you, Clara! Thank you, Carlos! Enjoy the day, Every day. Share that joy! In Harmony, Raymond Schwarzkopf ![]()

Tags, tags, and more tags! "Tag heaven" is a great description of HCNW! It's not the least bit unusual to hear groups of men, women and mixed voices singing tags every evening, between classes, during meals, around campus...you get the idea. Check the links below for tag sources. Not very tag-proficient? Don't be shy; ask someone to teach you theirs! You'll love it. • Popular tags compilation • Joe Liles' arrangement of One More Song, which is essentially three tags strung together! ! • Curious about TEACHING tags? Here are some tips. |

Kentucky Babe
Kentucky Babe--arguably the most famous African-American lullaby--was first sung by Clarence Carroll Clark, who was born 1885 in Indiana. The song was a major hit in 1896 and was subsequently sold in the Sears, Roebuck, and Company catalog in 1903...for about 40 cents! (source: Notable Kentucky African-American Database) Kentucky Babe was our HCNW song in 2013. If you want to learn it, here is the sheet music and click on the video to hear Masterpiece sing it during a "Sing with the Champs" in 2017 in Las Vegas. |
